Australian au pair visa extension to up to 12 months

Further to the meeting that took place between the Cultural Au Pair Association of Australia (CAPAA) and Minister of Social Services Scott Morrisson in June, the Australian government has now decided that – effective immediately – Working Holiday Maker visa holders (subclasses 417 and 462) who have worked as an au pair for six months with one family and wish to continue working will be able to go through a simple, extension process allowing them to work up to 12 months with one family until their Working Holiday Maker visa expires. Cultural Au Pair Association of Australia (CAPAA) meets with Minister of Social Services to discuss extension of au pair visa

Last week representatives from the Cultural Au Pair Association of Australia (CAPAA) met with Minister of Social Services Scott Morrison to discuss the extension of the current working holiday visa from 6 to 12 months. AIFS Australia’s managing director and CAPAA President, Wendi Aylward, and Smart Au Pairs owner, Nicole Kofkin discussed the visa and the inclusion of au pairs in Australia’s childcare future. ECAPS – Revised guidelines booklet published

The European Committee for Au Pair Standards (ECAPS) has just published a revised booklet containing standardised definitions for au pairs, host families, au pair agencies and national au pair associations in order to create a common standard for the the developments of quality au pair programmes throughout Europe. With these guidelines as a basis, ECAPS looks to engage in a dialogue on a European level to ascertain the fact that au pairing is considered a youth cultural exchange programme, and not as employment.
